The history of Justin Cowboy Boots stretches back to the 19th century. Back in 1879, founder H. J. Justin migrated from his native Indiana to Texas, where he set up a boot business in Spanish Ford, Texas. H. J. Justin equipped real cowboys as they traveled the Chisholm Trail. Once the railroad came into town, H. J. Justin took advantage of this new transportation option to expand his business.
Around 1910, H.J.'s sons, John and Earl, came into the family business. By that time, Justin Cowboy Boots was a national name--they sold in over 25 states at more than $10 a pair. Over the next 30 years, the company continued to grow, and eventually introduced the first pair of women's boots, known as the Western Gypsy.
The Tradition of Justin Cowboy Boots
In 1981, Justin acquired the Nocona Boot Company. The merging of these two major manufacturers empowered both brands and allowed Justin Industries to eventually purchase its longtime rival, Tony Lama boots. Justin Boot Company's fundamental commitment to providing top-quality workmanship and materials has been the driving force behind its successful expansion. Indeed, these boots still very much embody the spirit of the frontiersman.
