The Nocona Boot Company has a long and fascinating history. It was founded by Miss Enid Justin, the daughter of H. J. Justin, who started up the Justin Boot Company. Miss Enid learned the craft of boot making by working in her daddy's shop, and she developed incredible stitching and designing skills. Upon her father's death in 1925, however, she split with her brothers and started up her own company, which she called the Nocona Boot Company.

While at first Miss Enid struggled, her business got a boost when oil was discovered nearby. She created lace-up boots built to withstand the rigors of working in the oil fields, and her sturdy wares attracted the attention of wildcatters coming to prospect. Miss Enid and her sister further expanded their company by making a trip into West Texas to drum up business in 1926.

The Story of the Nocona Boot Company
As the Nocona Boot Company continued to grow, Miss Enid became a well-known figure in the region. Most famously, she sponsored one of the Pony Express races involving 15 cowboys--14 boys and one girl--from Nocona to San Francisco. In the early 1980s, the Nocona Boot Company merged back with the Justin Company, finally uniting the family businesses.
